PhD Day 2024 - Recognition & Rewards
Attention all current and aspiring PhD candidates! It's time to sign up and prepare to celebrate PhD Day with us. Whether you're knee-deep in your research or just embarking on your journey toward a doctoral degree, this day is dedicated to acknowledging your hard work, dedication, and achievements.

PhD Day is a celebration of your commitment to advancing knowledge and making significant contributions to your field. It's a chance to reflect on your progress, connect with fellow researchers, and take pride in the impact of your work.

Sign up here for a day filled with festivities, including special events, workshops, and networking opportunities tailored to support you on your academic journey. And of course, social drinks to end the day!

Looking for new board members 
Deadline: 30.04.2024
We are looking for a new Secretary of the Board and a General Board Member to join us!

As the secretary, you have a vital role in the board, as you handle the LAP inbox, organize meetings, and take notes during meetings. Are you Dutch-speaking, do you have an eye for detail, and great organization skills? Then we definitely want to hear from you!

As a general board member, your responsibilities will likely include attending board meetings, organizing events or initiatives, communicating with other students and faculty members, and supporting the overall functioning of the board and its objectives. Dutch is not required for this role! 

In return, you get to learn about the ins and outs of the LUMC, work with a diverse board of motivated fellow PhD candidates who want to make a difference for the PhD community, and you can have the opportunity to implement your ideas and see them flourish in practice! We look forward to meeting you! Send us your CV and motivation letter!

Psychologist for PhD candidates
The PhD psychologist can offer support to all Leiden University PhD candidates who are experiencing psychological issues that are either caused by, or are directly affecting, their PhD trajectory. The PhD psychologist is very much aware of the unique position occupied by PhD candidates and as a result, can provide assistance that helps to meets their specific needs. PhD thesis spreadsheet
Click here for a public google spreadsheet in which you can leave your contact details to get in touch with other PhD candidates who are printing their thesis soon to get a group discount. It is your own responsibility to get in touch with each other and organize the group discount with the printing company. Proefschrifspecialist.nl has now also offered a special discount for the printing of your thesis, depending on the group size.

NWO Vacancy (Dutch)

NWO is looking for PhD candidates for temporary position junior programme manager Taskforce for Applied Research SIA/NWO. In this position, you will be temporarily employed by the Taskforce for Applied Research SIA and will return to the university, research institute, or academic hospital at the end of your employment to complete your PhD trajectory.

Vuurvliegen x Leiden Bio Science Park (Dutch)
Fireflies is a science battle in which primary school students form the jury. In an afternoon full of spectacle, four to five young researchers are given a stage to present their research to 100 to 250 children from groups 5 to 8. The main goal: to get the children excited about chemistry, life science and technology! Read more here

The Science & SciLifeLab Prize for Young Scientists 
Deadline: 15.07.2024
The international Prize is awarded annually to four young scientists for outstanding life science research based on a doctoral degree earned in the previous two years. Read more here

New LUMC PhD Onboarding Module 
We are pleased to inform you that the LUMC Graduate School has created a new e-learning “Onboarding LUMC PhD candidates” to provide a soft landing for all newly enrolled LUMC PhD candidates.
The e-learning “Onboarding LUMC PhD candidates” will help new PhD candidates to find their way in the LUMC to provide an optimal start of their PhD trajectory. The e-learning is available via the LUMC Learning Environment. As per 01 April 2024, as soon as new PhD candidates are registered in Converis, they will receive an invitation by e-mail to follow this new e-learning. 

Leiden University Workshop Scientific Conduct for PhD's 
This workshop is part of the Leiden University mandatory wide program to make PhD candidates familiar with the different concepts related to scientific conduct and integrity. The workshop is taught by the LUMC Graduate School. Click here to register for one of the start dates:
