February 2024

Dear fellow PhD candidates,

In the world of academia, the challenges of PhD research often feel like weathering a storm. Despite the turbulent conditions, seasoned scholars know that stormy weather can be the ideal backdrop for focused work and breakthroughs. As we tackle the tempests of research, we look forward to the better days ahead – a time when the clouds of uncertainty clear, much like the optimism that surrounds Valentine's Day. Here's to weathering the storms and anticipating the arrival of brighter, sunnier days in our academic journeys.

Also, please save the date already for our PhD day on the 25th of April and nominate your supervisor for the Supervisor of the Year Award!

Best wishes,
The LAP board

Psychologist for PhD candidates

To make an appointment, send an email.

Working group Optimize your Research
Researchers are increasingly experiencing problems with the setup and execution of research due to growing regulatory pressure. For example, well-intentioned laws and regulations in research situations do not always have the desired positive impact on the quality and feasibility of the research and patient safety. Since the working group has just started, we would like to hear from you about the challenges you are facing and what ideas you have to optimize human-related research! Are you also involved in research? Then we would like to ask you to fill out this questionnaire about the challenges you face and possible solutions for them.

Closed Door sessions PTA’s
On 07 and 27 February the Graduate School will organize two Closed Door sessions for Primary Thesis Advisors and co Thesis advisors. These meetings are a follow-up activity after similar Closed Door meetings were  held by LAP and YFN and will also be attended by the dean, Henk Jan Guchelaar and the LUMC confidential advisor for research, Eline Slagboom. The sessions will be used to update the PTA’s on the two earlier Closed Door sessions, and to collect input from the PTA’s. Please encourage your PhD supervisors to attend these meetings. See Albinusnet for the full announcement.

Open Door sessions for all involved in PhD supervision
Next to the Closed Door sessions, the Graduate School will also host in total four Open Door Sessions in the upcoming weeks. For these Open Door sessions all people involved in PhD supervision will be invited; PhD candidates, Primary Thesis Advisors, Co-Thesis Advisors and daily supervisors. In these sessions we will look forward and discuss specific topics, looking for direction of the change that we are working on. The Open Door sessions will also be announced on Albinusnet and invitations will be sent to all involved.

The dates for these Open Door sessions are:
