27.10.2022 - Workshop: how to survive academic life – PhD support for dummies (12:00-13.30)
Do you find it challenging to balance life and academics? Do you sometimes struggle to retain your focus and direction? Sharing your experiences and struggles can give you a feeling of ‘I’m not alone in this!’. Also, understanding what others are doing to cope with their issues can inspire you. It can give you ideas, encouragement, motivation and a sense of connectedness. This short workshop will give you a menu of what’s already available. And you’ll get a taste of ‘peer support’ through some easy and fun exercises. Click here to register.

In each city of the PhD associations, Delft, Rotterdam and Leiden, we will have speakers explain about a certain topic relating to neurodivergence.

Grant newsletter
The Grants Newsletter of September has been published on Albinusnet, click here to read. If you have any ideas to expand your research, want to continue as a postdoc or just want to see what kind of grants are available to you in the future, make sure to check it out!

Open Access publishing
The LUMC is committed to Open Access publishing, which means that whenever possible publications are available free of charge and are freely accessible online. This can be achieved, for instance, by making a PDF of the publication available via the Leiden Repository. Click here to read more.

Watch out for predatory or deceptive Open Access journals
Publishing your article almost accidentally in a predatory or deceptive Open Access journal is a financial and reputational risk in the current science publication climate. It is well worth your while perusing our information to prevent this from happening. And it is also worth your while spending 5 minutes watching this video on this topic, produced by IFIS publishing. Need more information? Contact openaccess@library.leidenuniv.nl.

20.10.2022 - Life Sciences Café: Cyber security and resilience (16.00-19.00h)
Annually, at least one out of 5 companies in The Netherlands is exposed to a cyberattack. In the best case a virus scanner or firewall will provide sufficient protection, but often business processes are (partly or fully) disturbed. Barry Roelofs from Buck Consultants International and Marcel Spruit from The Hague University of Applied Sciences will talk you through this interesting topic. Location: BioPartner 5: De Limes 7, 2342 DH Oegstgeest.

Health Innovaitors
HealthInnovaitors is a student consultancy organization working on making healthcare future-proof by accelerating the adoption of AI. The idea is to bring bright minds with backgrounds in medicine, engineering, and management together to find comprehensive solutions. The first project will start in November at the department of Radiology at the LUMC. Are you a highly motivated PhD student looking to make your mark in healthcare, check out their website to learn more or send them an email

19.10.2022 - Workshop LEO: know your rights as a PhD (16.00-18.00)
Know your rights as a PhD! Join this workshop to learn everything you need to know and ask your questions to the experts. What's more, you are invited for free drinks directly after. More info at the LEO website. Click here to register.
