Dear fellow PhD candidates,
 
We are looking for new boardmembers to start at the end of the summer! Read below to find out more.

Furthermore, we are organizing two events in the near future. The first one is a workshop on thesis printing on the 23rd of June and the other is a boat trip through the canals of Leiden on July 7. Both activities require pre-registration, so check below to do this a.s.a.p.

New board members LAP - deadline August 28
We are looking for new board members to start at the end of the summer. We represent all PhD candidates of the LUMC both locally through contact with the Graduate School and dean, and nationally through PNN. We also organize events and lectures such as the PhD day, pubquizzes, and networking events. If you are interested in becoming a board member, please send in your CV and short motivation to lap@lumc.nl before the 28th of August. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact us.
 
07.07.2022 - Boat trip LAP - Leiden 
Do you want to meet other PhD candidates, and are you in for a casual event with your fellow PhD colleagues? Come and join us on a boat trip through the canals of Leiden on July 7 at 5.30pm. We will arrange the drinks and some snacks. Do not forget to register here, deadline: 1st of July.
23.06.2022 - Workshop thesis printing - 12.00-13.30 in the LUMC, room V-03-026/030
The organisation ‘Persoonlijk Proefschrift’ (Personal Dissertation) is happy to tell us more about how to design your dissertation, how to choose between all the different options and inform us on the possibilities for printing your dissertation in this lunch workshop. Registration is required! Do so by clicking here.

Prof. Dr. A.E. Meinders Fund
LUMC introduces the Prof. Dr. A.E. Meinders Fund for MD-PhD students. This is a gift from former LUMC colleague Prof. Dr. A.E. Meinders, who is now retired but still closely associated with the LUMC. The fund will be available to two students per year for at least the next five years. This scholarship is for PhD candidates within the department of internal medicine who want to do some research abroad. The scholarship can be applied for by PhD students who have yet to earn their bachelor's or master's degree. No more costs for Open Access publishing in more than 11.000 journals
The LUMC has bought off the costs of publishing an article in Open Access for more than 11.000 journals. We would like to increase the awareness of these agreements for LUMC employees. Here you will find more information on these agreements. And click here to identify for which journals these costs are bought off. 

PhD thesis spreadsheet
Click here for a public google spreadsheet in which you can leave your contact details to get in touch with other PhDers who are printing their thesis soon to get a group discount. It is your own responsibility to get in touch with each other and organize the group discount with the printing company.

Propositions of LUMC PhD candidates in NTvG
Did you recently defend your thesis or will you defend soon? Will your conclusions change medical practice? Do you have results that everyone in your field should know about? Submit your best 2 propositions to the Dutch Journal of Medicine and your proposition may be published in print and online in the oldest Dutch medical journal. Propositions will be published in Dutch. Don’t speak Dutch? Ask a colleague to translate your proposition for you. Check out their website to find out how it works. 10-13.07.2022 - EUniWell Summer School “COVID19: Impact on European health & well-being” - Leiden University, Campus The Hague
Do you want to learn more about the impact of the pandemic on population health and contribute to the debate about post-pandemic health and healthcare provision? Are you keen to engage with international professors, students and health and social care professionals from other countries in Europe? Are you excited about acquiring an interdisciplinary perspective on the pandemic and population health? If so, apply now for this exciting and relevant EUniWell Summer School. Survey about meaningful work of PhD candidates in The Netherlands
Anniek Smolders wants to invite you to participate in a study about meaningful work of PhD candidates in The Netherlands. Her research focusses on how PhD candidates make changes in their jobs to experience more meaningful work, and the way autonomy and supervisors can support this. The survey will take about 10-15 minutes to finish. Your input will always be treated anonymously. By participating in this study, you can win a 25-euro gift card from Bol.com. Start the survey by clicking here.

PhD Statistics Courses 2022
Boerhaave Nascholing offers several statistics courses for PhD candidates, and registration for the following courses in 2022 has been opened:
