On the 20th of March our partner organization Young Medical Delta will organize a round table discussion on the use of AI in research. GPT3 and large language Models in science
GPT3 and other Large Language Models are forms of artificial intelligence that can be used to generate or correct text. However, it is important to realize that the precise norms for using LLMs in science are only slowly emerging. Using them for your dissertation is not explicitly prohibited, provided that the dissertation still qualifies as your own work. If you decide to use LLMs, it is wise to be transparent about this in accordance with the core values of the Netherlands Code for Scientific Integrity (2018).

Regulatory pressure frustrates medical research
We have probably all heard the common phrase: “It would be nice to get this figured out, can you do that?”. What sounds like an easy and feasible question is often a complex matter in clinical practice. While various rules are to ensure the quality of research and protect privacy, the opposite might be true. As consequence, administrative and regulatory procedures do not always contribute to improving research quality. The Ontregel het Onderzoek (“deregulate research”) working group seeks to improve the administrative and regulatory burden in conducting clinical research. They would like to get in touch with various researchers in the LUMC to better understand the various challenges involved in research.
